Access Platform Hire For The Construction Industry

Hiring a reliable access platform will allow you to complete work at height in the construction industry safely and efficiently. Without an access platform, workers would be required to use other equipment, such as steps and ladders, which can pose risks to safety, especially on construction sites which can be particularly hazardous. It is also key to work with a construction-focused partner who supplies well-maintained kits, supports health and safety regulations and ensures an efficient hire process.

Here at Horizon Platforms, we can help you choose from our wide range of mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPS) and can advise on the most appropriate specialist equipment and access platforms for your construction job. With a choice of cherry pickers, boom lifts and personnel lifts to hire, you can find the perfect platform for your next project.

What To Consider When Choosing An Access Platform For Construction Jobs

There are a few factors to consider when choosing an access platform suitable for your construction project, including aspects such as whether the correct IPAF licence has been acquired by the operator and whether the MEWP can be used safely within your working environment.

IPAF Training & Operator Licences

One of the most important factors to take into account when choosing a MEWP for construction projects is to evaluate who is operating the machinery and whether they have the appropriate experience to do so. Anyone who intends to operate a powered access platform must have the required licences and have completed the relevant IPAF training to ensure they have the correct knowledge. Explore the IPAF training guide for more information.

If you require an instructor on-site or a manager, a different IPAF training course is required and will result in the candidate receiving a different licence. There are specific criteria required to begin these courses, but you can learn more about what’s needed on our website.

Access Platform Capability

Identifying which access platform is right for your construction project can depend heavily on its functionality and how it will be able to perform in the given environment. This means that the first step of the process involves evaluating your working environment and identifying any obstacles or difficult manoeuvres the operator may have to make.

Once you have identified exactly how you’ll need the MEWP to operate, you’ll be able to make an informed decision on which platform is right for you. For example, if there are many obstacles in the way and hard-to-reach areas, an articulating boom lift will be the most suitable as it offers extra manoeuvrability when compared with a scissor lift. That being said, if the task requires simple vertical movement, a scissor lift will be the perfect choice.
