What is IPAF Training?

IPAF, which stands for International Powered Access Federation, is an organisation dedicated to the safe and proper use of access platforms.

Training courses consist of both theory and practical tests, suitable for operators and managers for the safe and compliant use of cherry pickers and scissor lifts. When you pass, you'll receive a Powered Access Licence, which is also known as a PAL card.

Training providers should be IPAF accredited. This shows that they have met the criteria set out by IPAF, allowing them to offer official training courses.

Why is it Important to Choose the Right IPAF Course?

When undertaking IPAF training to operate equipment for your job, it's important to know exactly which access platforms you'll be using, as your PAL card will state which platforms you've been trained to use. If your PAL card does not state that you've been fully trained to use a specific type of MEWP, you won't be allowed to operate it as it would be unsafe to do so.

Read our Ultimate guide to Access Platform Training for more information.

What are the Different IPAF Courses?

There are different training IPAF courses required for different levels of qualification. For example, if you're operating MEWPs, your training course will be different to that of an instructor, which allows you to provide training on the safe use of access platforms.

It is important, however, to check what the requirements are for the course you're looking to undertake as some qualifications require you to have held an operator's licence for a certain period of time. For instance, to complete an IPAF instructor course, you will have to have held an IPAF Operator Licence for a minimum of six months and an IPAF Demonstrator Licence for at least three months.

How Much Do IPAF Training and Operator Courses Cost?

This price for IPAF training depends on whether you're doing an IPAF operator course to get your license for one of the different MEWP categories (1b/3a/3b/PAV) or whether your doing one of the advanced courses such as MEWPs for Managers, IPAF PAL+, or IPAF Demonstrator.

Horizon Platforms IPAF courses start from about £99+VAT (Prices are subject to change), although there are discounts available with promotions at certain times of the year. Follow us on LinkedIn and Facebook to get updated on discounts and offers.
