The aim of this IPAF Demonstrator Training Course is to provide candidates with the correct instruction to properly demonstrate the use of mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs) such as cherry pickers and scissor lifts, as well as to educate MEWP operators on their responsibilities and MEWP limitations.
This includes pre-use inspections and proper health and safety legislation to ensure safe use of access platforms, including correct PFPE use and emergency procedures. Following the course, candidates will take an exam to receive their IPAF Demonstrator Licence.

IPAF DEMONSTRATOR COURSE OBJECTIVES
At the end of the course, the trainee will be able to carry out the required tasks involved in the role of demonstrator to familiarise operators with their responsibilities and demonstrate the pre-operational and safe operating procedure and the limitations of MEWPs.
The demonstrator should know:
The pre-use checks and daily maintenance to be carried out prior to commencing work
The correct and safe method of operating the specific machine
The correct emergency procedures, capacities and limitations to enable safe operation
Selection and use of fall protection equipment covering as a minimum anchorage point in platforms, harness standards, explanation of fall arrest, lanyard types, use and correct fitting, rescue procedures, current recommendations [HSE & IPAF H1/05/05]
IPAF DEMONSTRATOR COURSE CONTENT AND LENGTH:
The IPAF Demonstrator Training Course covers the following:
1-2 days in-person training depending on number of machine categories
Introduction
MEWP categories
PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)
Operator revision and theory test PASS or FAIL
Responsibilities for familiarisation
Demonstrator training - Practical preparation
Pre-use and function checks
Demonstrator theory and practical test PASS or FAIL

Why Is MEWPs For Managers Training Important?
As a manager or supervisor, it’s essential that you have sufficient knowledge of safely operating powered access platforms on site. Under UK health and safety laws, every employer must train any staff who will be using or managing work at height equipment, as set out in the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER) and the Work at Height Regulations 2005.
When planning and overseeing others operating MEWPs, you have a responsibility to keep them safe and provide them with the right support whilst working at height.
Working with MEWPs following IPAF training will considerably lower the risk involved in the workplace as you’re able to take steps to improve health and safety yourself, as well as educate others on best practices whilst working at height.
How Do You Pass A MEWPs For Managers Course?
Following thorough IPAF training and theory teaching, the candidate will be assessed on both their theory and practical knowledge.
