What Is Platform Protect?

Platform Protect is an optional agreement added to hire contracts with Horizon Platforms that waives the customer's obligation to pay if access platforms are stolen or damaged while on hire*. Platform Protect is split in to two parts, the Damage Waiver and Theft and Loss Waiver and is ideal for those without adequate hired in plant Insurance or no proof of coverage in the event of loss or damage to platforms.

How Much Does Platform Protect Cost?

Platform Protect comes in 2 parts, the Damage Waiver and Theft and Loss Waiver and each are only 10% of the total hire charge. For example: If your hire contract is £400.00, you will only pay £80.00 (£40 for the Damage Waiver and £40 for the Theft and Loss Waiver).

The Relief When A Customer Chose Platform Protect!

Over a 1000 customers regularly use Platform Protect and many have happily taken advantage of its ease and convenience when machines have been damaged. It was no different for the customer of this burnt JLG 10RS.

Unfortunately, when this scissor lift was out on long-term hire, it fell foul of an accident inside a manufacturing unit. The machine was near to a production line that overheated and caught fire. As the fire spread it also engulfed the machine.

Luckily, no one was hurt and our customer had taken out Platform Protect. Meaning they only had to report the incident to Horizon. We then took care of everything.

The machine was a total loss meaning an excess* did apply. But, that's all! They weren't hit with an insurance premium hike and didn't lose any working hours going back and forth with their insurance company: time and money saved!

Frequently Asked QuestionS

How Does Platform Protect Work? Your damage waiver payment absorbs most repair costs to hired equipment. Without it, you will be required to return the plant undamaged to pay the full costs of any repairs.

Is Platform Protect Compulsory? Without Platform Protect or adequate hired in plant insurance you must provide a letter or email in advance stating you will be responsible for any damage to hired equipment should you decline Platform Protect.

Is Platform Protect an Insurance? Platform Protect is a waiver of Horizon Platforms’ legal right to have equipment returned in the same condition as when it leaves the depot.

*Is There an Excess? There is no excess for repairable accidental damage. £1,000 is payable in the case of damages beyond economical repair or total loss by the hirer.

Terms and Conditions

Exclusions

All exclusions below apply to both Damage & Loss waivers under Platform Protect:

Third Party claims.
Paint spillage and over-spray.
Damage caused by non-observance of daily maintenance.
Inadequate security.
Use by operators not suitably qualified to IPAF / CITB Standard.
Any gross negligence.
Damage caused by overloading.
Damage whilst using the machine other than for its designed purpose.
Damage by fire when hot work is being undertaken.
Damage due to corrosion by chemicals.
Damage whilst it is on hire/loan to/or used by any other party.
Wilful damage.
Damage caused whilst equipment is being lifted or carried by forklifts, cranes, hi-abs, etc.
Loss or Damage caused by or contributed to or arising from disappearance and/or unexplained or inventory shortage.
Operational wear and tear due to misuse/misredirection.
Use on a Public Highway.

Requirements

Daily and weekly equipment checks on batteries etc.
Safe Storing of the equipment when not in use within a secure compound or secure building.
Trained operators being defined as suitably qualified operators IPAF / CITB Standards.
We confirm that we have insurance cover that protects us against loss or damage to the hired out plant and equipment. We will arrange for you , as the hirer, to be given an interest in the relevant policy. Although you will not be a party to our Insurance policy and will not have any direct rights or action against our Insurers, our Insurers have nevertheless agreed with us that they will not exercise any subrogation rights that they may have against you to the extent that you have, as stipulated in the Horizon Damage & Loss Waiver Agreement, been given an interest in the policy by agreement with us. Provided always that you act as though you were the policyholder and observe, fulfil and be subject to the terms and conditions of the policy in so far as they apply.
Where the damage is caused by criminal activity (I.e. trespassers joy riding, hit and run etc.), the damage must be reported to the police and a crime reference number must be provided to Horizon Platforms, accompanied with CCTV evidence wherever possible. Without the crime reference number, you will not be able to claim against your waiver.
